I have had this page up for awhile, and just made some big updates to it. It has a guide to different neighbourhoods on the Peninsula, and links and info to places to get art supplies, useful shops, cheap good food, music venues, etc. from a point of view I hope is useful to financially-challenged artist folks.

Re: "Artist's Guide to North Portland" - Am I missing anything major here?
Mon, April 18, 2005 - 4:12 PMRad site -- lots of useful stuff -- thanks!
Moved to this area in January -- only thing I have to add is thus far Yes! Produce is pretty lame -- wilted lettuce, small selection, etc. I live two blocks from it and REALLY wish it was good but thus far it's not lived up to its name. -

Fri, April 21, 2006 - 3:43 PMYou're only a couple of miles from Sauvie Island. Why would you go to a grocery store?

Wed, April 27, 2005 - 8:57 PMcool I have an artist friend, she's actually an art therapist, who recently moved one block from the firehouse (She actually lives on Schoefield.) I don't know if she knows about this so I forwarded her the information.

Re: "Artist's Guide to North Portland" - Am I missing anything major here?
Fri, April 21, 2006 - 3:50 PMThis is so great. Thank you for putting it together. FYI. Value Giant has (or is about to?) moved to Vancouver. Also, the Twilight Room gets a bad rap, but they have pretty good bar food and a great staff. Cheapcheapcheap. Support your local bartenders! Do you know anything about the "Clean up St. Johns" thing happening tomorrow? I saw a flyer a week ago and I don't remember where it is or anything.

Re: "Artist's Guide to North Portland" - Am I missing anything major here?
Tue, April 25, 2006 - 3:37 PMValue Giant is gone, :( they closed back in March. Weir Cycle is getting ready to open in that space now. Also, there's a new store called B Stitch on Lombard, I think it's somewhere between Fabric World and Twilight Room... along that stretch, I think.

Re: "Artist's Guide to North Portland" - Am I missing anything major here?
Mon, September 4, 2006 - 7:52 PMThanks for your feedback folks, although the guide is probably going to go into hibernation for a awhile. I have been been too busy to make updates, and so it is rather out of date at this time. (Also, there is a rather LOT going on to keep up with!) But as the Sentinel is doing such a great job with their art & community calendar, I would recommend them as the best place to get the artsy scoop for now: www.stjohnssentinel.com/calendar.php

Sat, April 28, 2007 - 6:27 PMthank you, for the update. i had your earlier one saved to disk and am glad to see the new info.
While not 'arty', i am glad for the art community here in North. It makes for a much better place to live.
